Matilda

I’m a fan of Roald Dahl’s books. Recently, I happened to see the beginning of the movie version of his book, Matilda.

A very young Matilda finds her way to the library and quickly moves through books for young children to older children to adults. Some books were visible and I was curious to see what the books were. I borrowed the movie from the library so I could pause it and check out the titles.

There are more books shown than can be easily identified. Here is the list of books Matilda read that I could identify.

Heidi

Pickwick Papers

Lorna Doone

The Three Musketeers

Tom Sawyer

The Hobbit

Shakespeare’s Sonnets

For Whom the Bell Tolls

Kim

Lord Jim

Ivanhoe

The Catcher in the Rye

A nice reading list. I haven’t read all of them. Matilda has a few on me.

A borrowed the book too. I’m pretty sure I own it, but wasn’t sure I could find it. Here are the books that are mentioned in the book:

Great Expectations

Nicholas Nickleby

Oliver Twist

Jane Eyre

Pride and Prejudice

Tess of the D’Urbervilles

Gone to Earth

Kim

The Invisible Man

The Old Man and the Sea

The Sound and the Fury

The Grapes of Wrath

The Good Companions

Brighton Rock

Animal Farm

Another good list, and again Matilda has a few books on me. I wonder if there is a Matilda reading festival somewhere.

You could do worse than to read Matilda, to read the books in Matilda, and to read Dahl’s other books.
