One More Father’s Day Book

Lory and I did a Father’s Day episode. My daughter, Monica, was our guest. Monica has been sending us photos of bookstores that she is visiting; something we are hoping other listeners will do. We’d like to have a section of the Two Sides website devoted to pictures and descriptions of the bookstores our listeners visit.

Given that it was a Father’s Day episode, and that Monica is my daughter meaning that I am a father; it seemed like a good fit.

Among other things, we talked about some books for Father’s Day. Lory and Monica got on me a bit for bring up The Shining. Admittedly, it isn’t a feel good father-son book. My interest was the importance of a father-son relationship to the book. So, now I have a reputation as being dark and twisty.

Sometime after we recorded, another book came to my mind; a book that is a better fit for what people might expect from a Father’s Day recommendation.

Forgotten Sundays: A Son’s Story of Life, Loss, and Love from the Sidelines of the NFL by Gerry Sandusky is a look at the relationship of Sandusky, a Maryland sportscaster, with his father John, an NFL coach.

He talks about the good and the bad, the evolution of the relationship, and the importance of his name.

If you want a less dark and twisty pick, you might want to check this one out. Do you have a Father’s Day recommendation? Let us know at twosides2thestory@yahoo.com
