Repeat Reading

Rereading is a topic I’m sure we will return to, but let’s dip our toes in today.

I do reread and was recently in a conversation when I was asked what book I had reread the most. I have reread many books, some repeatedly, but the answer to the question is easy, the Lord of the Rings.

Beginning in the mid-70s, I would guess I’ve read the Lord of the Rings more than thirty times. My first time was at the Broad Creek Scout Reservation. Blair Grubb (Grubb, a hobbit sounding name!) had a copy of The Fellowship of the Ring sitting on his bunk. I started reading and ended up finishing his three books before he did. I was hooked.

I read it annually for about twenty-five years and then occasionally after that. Even now, all these years later, I still get the urge to reread it.
